When the pandemic hit in 2020, StandAsOne Ministry’s annual fundraiser, Ride For Refuge, became impossible. They came to us needing a solution for fundraising within the limitations of COVID-19, and we immediately put the power of the Mellenger team behind solving their challenge.

Sprinting in style
StandAsOne had a tight timeline but we were up to the task. We started by diving deep to understand what their cause was all about. Once we had a clear picture of the end goal, we pitched Move2Help, a virtual fundraising and fitness challenge platform that merges movement tracking with good-natured competition to raise funds for a worthy cause.
Move2Help wouldn’t just connect sponsors with participants, but every dollar donated to every kilometre achieved. It would coordinate teams, track progress and include incentives, and do it with the same spirit of community that had always brought supporters together.
Keeping it moving
Building a new social platform that had fitness tracking, donations, goals, achievements, marketing automation, mobile apps for both iOS and Android and all with Canadian data residency was no easy task.
First, we laid out the platform’s structure and put some meat on the bones. Working in a layered and interleaved approach, we wireframed our UX/UI while organizing the mechanics and writing the content for both desktop and mobile versions.
We worked on the biggest problems first, and adopted a Event Driven Design philosophy on the build so the project could scale well to any size.

Now it was time to put the face on. We designed a visual brand based around a font that every campaign can use as part of their marketing. The look and feel was extended into a badge or pin style for gifts and achievements, giving these virtual rewards a 3-dimensional treatment.

Health meets purpose
After some breakneck development and a lot of killer collaboration, Move2Help went live. StandAsOne used the platform, customized as Move4Malawi, to stage a fitness challenge where people walked, ran or rode towards a collective goal of 16,000km (the distance from Vancouver to Malawi) over 8 weeks to raise awareness and funds for StandAsOne’s development programs.
In the end, StandAsOne raised more money than they ever had doing their typical one-day bike ride, with higher engagement with the donors and more people signed up than ever before. The campaign was an unequivocal success and they are already making plans on how they will use it again next year.
